Quad 800 won’t start cleaning – stuck at initialisation or map loading

If your Quad 800 won’t start cleaning and appears stuck at the initialisation screen or fails to load the map, there are a few likely reasons. These issues are common during first-time setup or when the robot loses its position in the environment.

Common Reasons

1. The wrong map is selected
If the selected map does not match the current physical layout or environment, the robot cannot align itself with the saved map.

2. Initial location is too far from the actual robot position
When you pick the robot’s starting point in the app, it needs to be within 2 metres of the real location of the machine.

3. Interference from nearby people or objects
Too many people, carts or movement close to the robot can confuse the sensors during the initialisation process.

How to Fix It

1. Check the map you're using
Make sure you're using the correct map in the app. If you’re unsure, try switching to a different saved map or creating a new one.

2. Set the initial position close to the robot
When selecting the initial location on the map, choose a spot that is physically close to where the Quad 800 is placed. Ideally, this area should have clear, fixed features like walls or corners.

3. Keep the surroundings clear
Ask people to step away and remove trolleys or boxes near the robot while it’s initialising. A clutter-free space helps the sensors lock on to known landmarks.

Additional Tips

  • If the robot keeps failing to initialise, consider rebuilding the map in a clean, open space.

  • Avoid using the Quad 800 near mirrors or transparent walls during initialisation, as these can confuse the lidar sensor.

  • Start the cleaning process from the charging dock whenever possible to improve map alignment.
